Have you ever heard of a sock monkey? I hadn’t either, until just before Christmas when we stopped to eat at Cracker Barrel. Mom and I were walking around looking at the interesting things there, and I saw a stuffed toy I had to have. I pointed to it, and said please. Mom brought it down off the shelf to look at, and I quickly reached out for it. She told me it was a monkey, and showed me the sign. I immediatly signed monkey please and reached out for it. I held on to that thing and would not let it out of my site, even when it was time to eat. Mom and dad decided to get it for me for a birthday gift. That was over a month ago and I have still not put the thing down. I take it everywhere, from car trips, to bed time, to College classes (yes, I’m taking a College class). It’s very soft and a good toy to have. Mom saw how much I liked it and she went and made a second one for me to keep at Grandma’s. She said they are easy to make, and she enjoyed it. Hopefully, she can find the socks in my size, and make a smaller one for me as well.
The other stuffed toy I have been starting to carry around is an owl I got at the release event for the last Harry Potter book. The monkey and owl always stay pretty close to me. I can even say owl as well as sign it, so I’m happy about that. You can see a photo of me and my monkey here:
So, you may have noticed that up above I mentioned that I am taking a college course. Believe it or not, I’m sitting in on a sign language course. It’s scary, but my sign skills are actually better than some of these kids! Of course, I have been signing a lot longer then they have. It is fun to watch them practice though, and I’m always excited when they are practicing workds that i know, as it gives me a chance to participate.
Speaking of stuffed creatures, have you ever heard of this really great kids show called Fraggle Rock? A friend of mom and dad gave them the complete first season on DVD. This show is wonderful. The fraggles are great and the music keeps me entertained for a long time. I love watching the shows and I hope mom and dad pick up more of them. If you don’t have it in your collection, you need to add it. Below is the opening sequence to the show. I personally love it.
